Growing up in Dubai in the 1980s and 90s (then a modest yet homely city), I had no such vision for my life.
But those early years planted the seeds of my need for inner and outer exploration.
My parents took me on their travels around the world to visit museums, natural wonders, sacred sites, and bustling cities. They also encouraged me to embark on journeys within my own mind by watching educational shows, reading the works of the greats, and then reflecting on the teachings.
Through this kaleidoscopic lens, I learned to see the sublime in the mundane and to find something special in everyone I met. Those early defining experiences opened the doorway of my mind, heart, and soul.
Yet, as I grew up, ‘life happened,’ as it does for most of us.
I entered my teen years and early adulthood lacking the clarity and practical tools to lay the foundation for my ideal life and withstand life’s storms.
While I realize my struggles aren’t unique and nowhere close to the scale of suffering people endure in parts of the planet, they still stung and required me to reckon with my blindspots and wounds.
During my struggles with weight loss and body image issues, experiencing heartbreak, career fog, and dealing with toxic family members, I distilled, defined, and digested certain truths that helped me overcome (or make peace with) my circumstances and find my way back to center.
And all of these experiences played a part in shaping some of my core philosophies that guide what I write and speak about.
There’s no magic bullet for leveling up in life.
The fast-food approach to wellness is no substitute for the process of soul-searching, hard work, and taking personal accountability.
Meaningful self-development is a slow, personal process (even if we haven’t hit rock bottom), and it all comes down to your beliefs, determination, and the discipline to take consistent action. No magic bullets or manifestation spells can do the work for you.
There’s no one-size-fits-all solution for personal growth & spirituality.
Openness and curiosity can serve us well in our evolution to fulfill our highest potential.
Exposure to various paths offers a higher perspective and the knowledge to choose what works best for us. Even if we stick with one path, seeing other points of view with curiosity and nonjudgment can enrich us and offer a multifaceted lens to view the world.
Newer isn’t always better.
There is value in the humility, respect, and wisdom espoused by sages from the yesteryears.
Stepping out of ego and a materialistic existence that defines modern life can fill the void many people have today. Bringing back the depth, substance, decency, and emphasis on building character can restore our families and communities and bring us closer.
Embracing our commonalities vs magnifying our differences.
The key to world peace is embracing our commonalities versus magnifying our differences.
In a time when many people have polarizing beliefs and cannot agree and get on the same page, changing our paradigm is critical. This entails moving from an ethnocentric to a global perspective to create a safe space for those from different races, cultures, and backgrounds.
These breakthroughs encouraged me to create my platform, The Dream Catcher, in 2014. It's named after a Native American artifact, which I think is the perfect symbol of wisdom.
Initially, the blog was where I could illuminate the issues that mattered to me, hoping that it would resonate with someone reading (As a former life coach, hypnotherapist, and NLP practitioner, I had a passion for helping others.)
As time went by, the blog began growing rapidly, and I heard from people from around the globe. The blog had taken on a life of its own—it was no longer about me but the Dream Catcher community.
In early 2018, I expanded the platform by starting a podcast inviting experts from different walks of life to share their knowledge and wisdom.
Today, The Dream Catcher blog attracts thousands of monthly readers and followers on social media. The Dream Catcher podcast is a top-rated show that has featured over a hundred and sixty guest experts, including bestselling authors, influencers, spiritual leaders, and academic scholars.
While those big numbers and associations are flattering—to me, it's always about changing lives.
Still, I don’t claim to be a guru or an erudite scholar with all the answers. Instead, I’m an informed wordsmith and reporter with a passion for learning and progress, and I find purpose in sharing ideas, information, and resources that work for me as I endure my peaks and valleys.
Through my musings and the wisdom of the pantheon of teachers and guides I reference and interview, I hope to help you rise from your struggles and despair and prosper in the end.
I believe in you, you should too.
