How to Deal with Culturally Ignorant People

Have you ever encountered someone who judged or made an assumption about you based on your race, nationality, education, or socio-economic background?

Such blatant ignorance can be annoying and hurtful, but there’s no escaping it. Not everyone we meet in life is going to be culturally savvy and have the sensitivity to understand those who are different from them.

When dealing with culturally ignorant people, remember that there is a continuum when it comes to intercultural development. In this episode, I’ve outlined the five phases of cultural development and four steps you can take when you encounter ignorant behavior in others.
